Music exists in time – even though it has the power to make us forget our temporal selves.
In The Ticking Accordion, every pulse is a heartbeat, every pause a space of stillness, and every sound an echo connecting the remembered past with eternity. Exploring aspects of time, the concert moves from the infinite architecture of Bach and the playful tick-tock of Haydn to Sofia Gubaidulina’s sacred depths, the silence of John Cage and Steve Reich’s rhythmic precision. Vigovajk Sagvik’s The Ticking Accordion, the inspiration for the concert’s title, opens the way to works by Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin and Astor Piazzolla.
